Mark awarded to the agricultural products whose productive process takes place in a particular geographical area and conforms to definite production regulations. These features depend exclusively on the geographical environment, which is the result of natural and human factors. |

I.G.P.
The word “IGP” implies a link between the agricultural product and a region, a particular place or, in special cases, a town. The mark denotes the product quality, prestige or another feature that can be attributed to the geographical origin and whose production and/or processing take place in that particular area. |

S.T.G.
It denotes the peculiarity of the agricultural product, i.e. the element/s which distinguish a product from others which are similar to it, but which are not characterised by such a high quality and by the respect for tradition. These products are therefore the result of a traditional productive process which is typical of a particular area in order to protect their specificity. The products whose peculiarity is exclusively due to their origin cannot be awarded this mark; this fact distinguishes them from the products with STG, DOP and IGP marks. |

I.G.T.
This acronym means "indicazione geografica tipica" (typical geographical information) and is awarded to table wines produced in wide areas according to regulations which are not so strict.
The area delimitation is wider than the one in which DOC wines are produced: it can include more than one region. In the scale of oenological values the IGT wines belong to a lower level if compared to the DOC and DOCG wines, but they are placed before the table wines.

D.O.C.G.
This acronym means "Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita" (controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin); to this category belong those wines whose grapes is not only picked in an area which is as circumscribed as the one of DOC wines but which also satisfies the necessary productive conditions defined by the regulations: the grapes adequacy is assessed by the supervisory body before the picking.
Moreover the wine must be bottled in the production area and the bottles must have a state label which guarantees the origin and quality and which allows the bottle numbering.

D.O.C.
This acronym means “"Denominazione di origine controllata" (controlled denomination of origin); to this category belong the wines whose grapes grows only in particular areas where also the wine is produced, according to what is established by the production regulations.
Normally the name of the vine is the same of the Doc wine. The production regulations are very strict, certainly stricter than the ones regulating the IGT wines. These wines can be drunk only after accurate chemical and sensorial analyses.

V.Q.P.R.D.
According to the European and Italian regulations this acronym means “Vini di qualità prodotti in regioni determinate" (Quality Wines Produced in Particular Regions): in this category are included wines like DOC and DOCG whose grapes is picked in a circumscribed area according to the regulations. |
