SALUZZO

The area surrounding Saluzzo is well known for its fruit farming: here are produced big quantities of top quality apples, peaches, apricots and pears.
The town of Saluzzo is considered one of the most valuable artistic centres in Piedmont: it is called the little “Siena of the Alps”. You cannot miss the Cathedral, S.Giovanni church, the elegant Cavassa House, a Renaissance mansion, the baroque Town Hall, which was a College of Jesuits, Misericordia church and Immaolata Chapel.
Manta lies near Saluzzo and is famous for its fourteenth century castle.
In this area take place many important events like:
. .“Tuttomele” (“Allapple”) : it takes place in Cavour and celebrates the apple.
. la “Fiera del Legno” (the Wood Fair): it takes place in Brossasco in April. Many artisans do woodcarving in the Varaita Valley, keeping old traditions and styles alive.
. “Antica Fiera del Cappone di Moretta” (The Ancient Capon Fair in Moretta): it takes place on the third Monday of December, its first edition dates back to 1561.
The High Po Valley stretches from Saluzzo to the Province of Turin; in this valley you find the Pian del Re (King Plateau), where the River Po has its source and the Pian della Regina (Quen Plateau), which are interesting naturalistic places.
It is beautiful to visit these towns and areas in every period of the year: in spring you are fascinated by the white blossoming of apricot trees or by the pink one of peach trees, in summer you can taste a fruit picked directly from the tree, in autumn you can admire the delicately shaded colours of the mountains, which are covered with snow in winter.

You cannot miss Racconigi with the wonderful Savoia Castle surrounded by a delightful park, Savigliano with Santorre di Santarosa Square, Costigliole Saluzzo with its Red Castle and Staffarda with its thirteenth century abbey.
